Something Old: Rose Petals

According to The Knot the tradition of carrying something old comes from an old English rhyme: “Something Olde, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue, and a Sixpence in your Shoe.” Specifically, carrying something old represents a bridge between the past and the future. Here is a “something old” idea:

Rose Petals: my good friend Sarah dated a lot of nice guys who weren’t “the one” before meeting the man that she married. Throughout the years though she had saved and dried the flowers that she had received in past relationships. On her wedding day rather than use fresh rose petals, her flower girl tossed the dried petals from these bouquets to represent her past and the road she had traveled before ultimately meeting the love of her life.
