I am so excited to report that we have our wedding and reception venues nailed down. The ceremony venue was fairly simple as we decided to get married at my lifelong parish, St. Michael Catholic Church in Independence.

My sister's '05 wedding at St.Mike's |
The reception proved a little trickier as we had quite a few criteria on our wish list:
- Budget: when you are looking at possible venues make sure you compare apples to apples. For example make sure you look at all final prices with tax and service charge as this can make a big difference and include all of the extras like parking and rentals
- Size/space: with lots of family and friends we needed a place that can pack a crowd. In looking at places be sure to inquire about various space options such as mixed table sizes, including a head table or the space a band versus DJ will take up.
After that we got to be a little more picky. We wanted something unique, somewhere that a friend or relative had not recently had their reception, and thought that a more historic type space would offer the kind of vibe we want for our reception. After touring several good possibilities (more on that in future posts) we settled on The Union Club:

The Union Club on E. 12th and Euclid in downtown Cleveland |
|
The bar which is part of the space for the cocktail hour |
|
Another cocktail hour space |
|
Entryway and staircase |
|
The main ballroom |
|
Another ballroom- not sure what we will use it for yet but surely I can think of something |
I was sold when I saw the Reading Room which can be used for the cocktail hour and after Chad's initial comment (It's like getting married at Brooke's Brothers!) I know he was sold too!
So, venue, check! Now that the big things are out of the way it's time to get down to the fun DIY details :)
