No need to fret, Cleveland has TWO great vintage rental options. The first is HodgePodge Vintage Rentals, we personally used them for our Cocktails and Couture party this past summer and loved everything and they are always adding new pieces to their collection. The second is Borrow Vintage and Eclectic Rentals, Valarie Kirkbrides has used them and highly recommends them- and if Valarie recommends someone/something you KNOW it's good. It's so nice when you can take one more stress off your wedding plate!

Cocktails & Couture

Last night Something White hosted an industry event for wedding planners and event designers called Cocktails & Couture. We had cocktails, delightful food and sweets and showed off our new gowns in various vignettes to spark ideas for wedding decor.  Special thanks to On Market Catering for the delicious food, Sugar Shop for the adorable marshmallow favors, and HodgePodge Vintage Rentals for the inspiring decor!

DIY Color Dipped Silverware

Now this might only work if you have a small wedding or you could do it for a bridal shower, but how cool is this dipped silverware?! And you can make it any color you want! For full instructions go to Style Me Pretty!

Silverware Display

Isn't this a super cool way to display silverware?! It's just one more detail to make your wedding stand out. This idea might not work if you are having a large wedding, but if you're having a small affair you could put these at each table, use them at the cake table or use them in the buffet line. AND if your fiance is handy I'm sure he could whip these up in no time:)

Winter Wedding Decor

Although it's still fall I know winter brides are on the lookout for interesting and seasonal wedding decor. I was at Anthropologie today and saw these "snow globes" made from mason jars and thought they would be so cute as centerpieces with some white birch tree branches! AND I think they could be easily replicated for the DIY bride. I love winter weddings!

DIY Bright Idea

Instead of scouring flea markets for mason jars or buying hanging votives here is an alternative idea from Do Me A Favor. What a great (and inexpensive) way to use all those light bulbs that are no longer suitable for your home and I can just imagine how amazing these would look hanging from trees! Love, love, love!

Standard Balloons?!

I did a post in the past regarding balloons as wedding decor and I stated how I didn't think "standard oval balloons" should be used in fear of them making your wedding look dated or cheesy. However, after seeing this wedding I'm a "standard balloon" believer! I love the various balloon colors and how they pop off the rest of the decor which is mostly white. So what do you think, would you use oval balloons at your wedding?

DIY Moss Letters

I love this idea and wish I had thought of it for my own wedding 2 1/2 years ago! It's just a little detail that adds a big bunch if you have exterior church doors or it could be used on the doors to your reception or anywhere at your reception for that matter. Wedding Balloons

I'm sure many people are scratching their heads thinking how can you make balloons look creative and interesting and fit for a wedding and not cheesy and just plain bad. But it can be done, just look at the photos below! I think the key is to use large, opaque, circular balloons and not translucent, oval shaped balloons. But you be the judge.

Online Magazines

If you've read our profiles on our website you know that one of us (me, Rebecca) is obsessed with wedding and design blogs, but I'm also obsessed with magazines. I've recently discovered online magazines, which are basically like a really long blog, and I wanted to share two of my favorites! Two things I love about online magazines are 1) they are currently free as they are funded by advertising and 2) almost everything on the page has a url behind it, find something you like and want to learn more just click on it to be taken to the product's website! Genius!

On Friday, November 26, if you've awaken from your turkey coma and you're done with Black Friday why not attend the Made in the 216 event in Ohio City! This event was created by Room Service owner, Danielle DeBoe to, "prove the viability of Cleveland as a place in which to base your creative endeavor through events that highlight a curated assortment of goods designed right here in Cleveland." I'm excited to check out all the creative goodies (some of which might be great ideas for upcoming weddings!) and also have a glass of  the specially brewed beer they are making for the opening event! DIY Decor: Decorative Signs

At Something White, we LOVE crafting with paper and are forever coming up with ways to incorporate paper into wedding decor. For those of you who saw our "Trunk Show" sign and thought something similar reading "just Married" would look great on your getaway car or at your reception, you're in luck. The sign was super easy to make with the help of some fancy letter templates available on the Martha Stewart Weddings Web site.

The letters come in a variety of designs. You can view and print them here. If that is still a little too much work for you, stop into the shop and purchase one of our signs!

Yard Games

If you are having an outdoor reception you may want consider placing various yard games (boccee ball, horse shoes, croquet, corn hole or even badminton) around the cocktail area. What better way for guests to mingle before dinner than over a game of bocce ball or corn hole in the green grass?! We would suggest putting the games away during dinner and bringing them out again toward the end of the night so you don’t have everyone playing games and no one dancing! And one added bonus, your pictures will look so cute with everyone dressed to the nines playing games!

Colored Linens!

Rebecca and her husband Scott always say that one of the most "memorable" moments of their wedding day was when I walked into the tent and exclaimed "Colored linens!!!" Although they found my excitement somewhat amusing, I think it was valid. After all, colored linens can make a huge impact on your reception space. While they can be pricey, in my opinion they can make an impact similar to elaborate florals, so if flowers aren't your thing, you can still up the ante with colored linens. Here are some that I have recently come across:

I ran across this display at a Chicago boutique. In addition to the colored linens, I LOVE the idea of using couches for seating, especially if your reception will be on the smaller side. 

A step above colored linens: patterned linens. This table setting was on display at the Indie Wed event in Chicago (this show was fab - we are hoping they will be announcing a show in Cleveland any day now!)

Came across this reception being set-up while I was in Charlotte a few months ago. In addition to the deep purple linens, I loved the mix of square and round tables!

My cousin's wedding this summer took colored linens to a whole new level with damask patterned table cloths and hot pink draped around the tent. 

DIY Wedding Decor: Fun with Felt

I recently bought a present at my favorite store Anthropologie and was inspired by the fun gift wrapping accessory they provided. Surely there was some way to transform this into easy and inexpensive wedding decor...here is what I came up with!

The Inspiration:



These simple felt circles pull together to make a fun "bow" for your packages. But the pom-pom is so cute it can easily vamp into DIY wedding decor for your reception or shower. Here is how to make them:

The Tools:

All you really need is some felt, ribbon or string and fabric scissors.

Step One: Cut your circles. I started by cutting up a bunch of squares that were the same size as a way to easily get cirlces that were roughly the same size.

Step Two: fold each circle in half and snip two slits near the center.

Step Three: string them together on your ribbon.

Step Four: scrunch the felt into a pom-pom and secure by knotting the ribbon. You're done!
