Wedding Cake Topper
I came across these gum paste letters and immediately thought they would look fab on a wedding cake- are we surprised my brain goes straight to weddings?! They can stand upright or lay flat and you can get symbols like ampersands etc. These feel very fresh and modern to me, perfect for an urban loft type wedding!

Decorate Your Own Doughnuts
I stumbled upon this idea while perusing a "new-to-me" blog, a lovely little blog. She used this idea for a brunch she hosted and I thought it would be adorable for a bridal shower or even a baby shower! I mean who doesn't want to choose their own doughnut flavor, frosting and toppings?! I could go for one right now...

A Different Type of Wedding Cake
One of my friends recently got married (in an English castle none the less!- I'm so sad I couldn't attend!) and decided on a different type of wedding cake- a cheese wheel cake! The "cake" had tiers of different cheeses and then it was garnished with berries and other fruits. Although I do love wedding cake in the traditional sense, I have to admit cheese would make me just as happy:)

Wedding Cake Buffet
I attended a beautiful wedding last weekend at the Tudor Arms hotel and one of my favorite details was the cake buffet. In addition to their main wedding cake they had two tables with various smaller cakes on display. Each cake (from Wild Flour Bakery) had a small placard indicating the flavor and staff was on hand to cut and serve. What a treat! Not only did I get to pick the flavor I preferred, but it is possible that I helped myself to a second slice!

Sprinkle Cake
Any serious sweet tooth will vouch that two of the best things in life are cake and sprinkles. So why not combine the two for a wedding cake delight? One of the brides we worked with had this fantastic cake at her wedding - any leftovers Jackie? Thanks for sharing!

Happy National Macaroon Day!
For most of the country, something like National Macaroon Day probably goes unnoticed. But here at Something White we can't think of a better reason to celebrate than honoring these tasty little treats. And of course it gets us thinking about ways the both adorable and delicious macaroon can be part of your big day!

Need I go on? Is everyone craving macaroons as much as I am now? Well I guess there is no better day to go out and treat yourself to one (or 10). Happy National Macaroon Day everyone :)

Cute Idea
I LOVE this idea! Maybe b/c I'm a planner and like to keep guests informed; I'm a stickler for menus and a sucker for programs. But wouldn't everyone like to know when the cake is going to be cut so you can get photos etc?!

Wedding Cake Tasting - Yum!
One of the most enjoyable parts of wedding planning has got to be cake tasting - especially for a cake lover like myself. While all of the cake I tasted was exceptionally delicious I have to say that I was especially impressed with the presentation by Wild Flour Bakery in Rocky River.
What followed the box unpacking was a cake-tasting process that rivaled the scientific method. If I mix cakes A &B with fillings B& D is that tastier that cakes C&D with fillings A&B? Not sure...I'll have to try it again :)

On the top of the box is a cake key indicated the cake and filling flavors inside the box.
8 flavors of cake: white, chocolate, strawberry, banana, almond, date, chocolate hazelnut, and lemon. Yum!
Fillings: raspberry, chocolate ganache, custard, white frosting, chocolate frosting, and apricot.

DIY Rustic Wedding Favor
At Something White many of our customers are having rustic barn type weddings chuck full of twinkle lights, mason jars and raw cut flowers. The other day, as I was perusing my daily blogs I stumbled upon this idea and thought it would be a perfect favor for many of our brides. Now I'm not much of a baker but it seems like even I would be able to pull these off. Anyone want to try and send some our way?! Karin and I love pie!!

DIY Wedding Cupcakes: Cupcake Caps!
I recently came across these beautiful cupcakes and was intrigued by how such loveliness was achieved on such a tiny cake.
I of course assumed that hours of work and icing expertise were involved. Thus I was happy to discover that while this may be the case at some point, you and I can simply order this perfection for only a buck a piece from Cupcake Caps!

The system seems pretty fool-proof.
Simply make cupcakes ahead of time and freeze. Order your caps in a variety of designs and colors. The morning before the big day thaw out your cupcakes, pop on the caps and you're set!

Easy as Pie
Don’t these “pie pops” look adorable and even more delicious?! I think they would make great favors for a wedding just wrap them in some cellophane or pretty boxes. Or if you are forgoing the traditional wedding cake, you could stick one pie pop in a dish of vanilla ice cream and make pie a la mode! The best part is you can make them yourself! The how to on Bakerella makes it look as easy as pie!

Top That: Cake Topper Ideas
You’ve chosen a bakery and worked with your baker to pick the shape, color and flavor of your wedding cake. Now it’s time to decide the cake’s style and how you want it decorated. A great way to add a whimsical touch to any style cake is with a cake topper! Cake toppers were big during my parents' era. They all but disappeared from weddings for a bit, but they are coming back! Cake toppers are a sweet way to add either a personal flare or a finishing touch to your dessert. Below are some of my favorite cake toppers; some are charming, some are funny, some are beautiful, but all of them are unique. Enjoy!

Real Weddings - Jennie and Rob
Today we are featuring the wedding of Jennie and Rob. The wedding was traditional in style with a church ceremony and a reception in the ballroom of a local hotel. However the attention to detail and myriad elegant touches helped to make the day special and unique.

The reception, held at the Wyndham, Cleveland, reinforced the elegance established during the ceremony. (Please note, the ballroom there has been revamped since this wedding took place).

Cleveland Vendors: St. Michael Catholic Church in Independence, The Wyndham Cleveland, The Florist at Petitti's, The Jerry Bruno Band, Wild Flower Bakery.
The ceremony was enhanced by beautiful flowers and melodic music provided by a string quartet, trumpet, organ and vocalist. Pews filled with family and friends and the ritual that is part of a Catholic wedding mass made the ceremony the best part of the day for the bride and groom.

These chair-shaped place cards doubled as the favor - the bottom was filled with blue and white M&Ms, customized with the couples' names.
White chiavari chairs enhanced the decor of the ballroom
A monogram adorned the wedding cake helping to personalize the day

Bite Sized, Big Taste
When planning our wedding my husband and I didn’t put much time and effort into the wedding cake, it was low on our priority list and at one point we were thinking of not having cake at all. We started thinking of different ways to serve dessert and one idea we had were petite fours; although they are still cake they are a bit different from one large traditional cake and you can get so many different flavors and shapes. They can also be inexpensive! We thought we could give each guest 3-4 different flavors presented on a long rectangular plate at each place setting. Although we ended up with a low key traditional wedding cake, I still think petite fours are a different but elegant way to serve a sweet treat at the end of your wedding meal!

We are up and running!
As of yesterday, June 14, Something White is open for business. We were quite busy there during the home stretch which is why there have been very few posts lately. Here is a look at a few of our projects that we hurried to get done in time for our opening:
We put up our wallpaper:
And our window decal:
And perhaps our favorite part of the week, meeting with industry vendors to talk about their (and our) services. I don't want to play favorites here but the meeting with Cristina from Cake Couture and her Chocolate Peanut Butter "Buckeye" cake was a real highlight!
Pictures of the shop itself are coming soon!

Wedding Cake Menu
I’m a sucker wedding menus, one because they are an additional detail where the bride and groom can showcase their personality and wedding decor and two because I like to know the details of what I am eating before I eat it! Here’s an idea that takes the cake - literaly! Isn’t this a cute way to give guests a sneak peak of the flavors that make up your beautiful wedding cake?! You can make the menu yourself or you can hire a designer, like Lazaro Design, to make one for you.
